With a few exceptions, most parks and recreation activities in the Town of Vinton are managed by the Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department (RCPRT Department). See the tables below for specific activities or locations, contact phone numbers, and directions.

Craig Avenue Center

Directions From I-581:
Take Elm Avenue (Route 24 East). Turn right onto South Pollard Street. Then turn left onto Craig Avenue. Turn right on Chestnut Street. The Center will be on your left.

Directions From Route 460: Turn onto Gus Nicks Boulevard at Hardee’s. Gus Nicks will turn into Washington Avenue. Turn right at the light onto South Pollard Street. Turn left at the light onto Virginia Avenue. Then take immediate right onto South Pollard Street. Then turn left onto Craig Avenue. Turn right on Chestnut Street. The Center will be on your left.

Amenities: Youth, Adult, and Senior Programs

Gearhart Park

Directions From I-581:
Take Elm Avenue (Route 24 East). Turn left onto South Pollard Street. Then turn left onto Washington Avenue/Gus Nicks Boulevard. After you cross the bridge you will take a left onto Highland Road just before the Roanoke County Career Center. Follow Highland Road all the way into the parking area.

Directions From Route 460: Turn onto Gus Nicks Boulevard at Hardee’s. Turn right onto Highland Road just past the Roanoke County Career Center. Follow Highland Road all the way into the parking area.

Amenities: ball field, playground, basketball, portable toilets.

Goode Park

Directions From I-581:
Take Elm Avenue (Route 24 East), which changes names several times and eventually becomes Washington Avenue. U-Turn at the stop light at Feather Road just past Lynn Haven Baptist Church, and then make a right onto Leisure Lane.

Directions from Route 460: Turn onto Gus Nicks Boulevard at Hardee’s. Gus Nicks will turn into Washington Avenue. Continue on Washington Avenue. U-Turn at the stop light at Feather Road just past Lynn Haven Baptist Church, and then make a right onto Leisure Lane.

Amenities: ball field, tables, open lawn areas.

Jaycee Field

Directions from I-581: Take Elm Avenue (Route 24 East). Turn left onto South Pollard Street. Then turn right onto Gus Nicks Boulevard/Washington Avenue. Continue on Washington Avenue and turn left into the Vinton War Memorial parking area. Jaycee Field is located adjacent to the Vinton War Memorial.

Directions from Route 460: Turn onto Gus Nicks Boulevard at Hardee’s. Gus Nicks Boulevard will turn into Washington Avenue. Continue on Washington Avenue and turn left into the Vinton War Memorial parking area. Jaycee Field is located adjacent to the Vinton War Memorial.

Amenities: ball field, batting cages, basketball.

M. A. Banks Park

Directions From I-581:
Take Elm Avenue (Route 24 East). Turn right onto South Pollard Street. Then turn left onto Craig Avenue. Park will be on your right.

Directions From Route 460: Turn onto Gus Nicks Boulevard at Hardee’s. Gus Nicks Boulevard will turn into Washington Avenue. Turn right at the light onto South Pollard Street. Turn left at the light onto Virginia Avenue. Then take immediate right onto South Pollard Street. Then turn left onto Craig Avenue. Park will be on your right.

Amenities: playground, basketball, grills, tables.

Swimming Pool

Directions from I-581: Take Elm Avenue (Route 24 East). Turn left onto South Pollard Street. Then turn right onto Gus Nicks Boulevard/Washington Avenue. Continue on Washington Avenue and turn left onto Meadow Street next to the Vinton Library. Go past the Library and the War Memorial and turn right into the swimming pool parking area.

Directions from Route 460: Turn onto Gus Nicks Boulevard at Hardee’s. Gus Nicks Boulevard will turn into Washington Avenue. Continue on Washington Avenue and turn left onto Meadow Street next to the Vinton Library. Go past the Library and the War Memorial and turn right into the swimming pool parking area.

Amenities: Large pool, chairs, restrooms, snack bar, youth and adult swimming lessons

Vinyard Park

Directions from I-581:
Take Route 460 East. Turn right on Gus Nicks Boulevard at Hardee’s. Turn left onto King Street. Go approximately 3/4 miles and turn right onto Berkley Road. Park is on the right approximately 1/4 mile down the road.

Directions From Route 460:
Turn onto Gus Nicks Boulevard at Hardee’s. Turn left onto King Street. Go approximately 3/4 miles and turn right onto Berkley Road. Park is on the right approximately 1/4 mile down the road.

Amenities: 8 - 8 ft. tables, 2 small grills, playground, ball fields, portable toilets.

Wolf Creek Greenway

Directions From I-581:
Take Elm Avenue (Route 24 East). Turn right into Lynn Haven Baptist Church parking lot. Trail head and trail parking are on your left. OR Take Route 24 East to Route 634 (Hardy Road) past Dillon Woods Subdivision. Turn left into "Best Little Hair House" parking lot. Trail head and trail parking are at the rear of the hair salon building.

Directions from Route 460: Turn onto Gus Nicks Boulevard at Hardee’s. Gus Nicks Boulevard will turn into Washington Avenue. Continue on Washington Avenue. Turn right into Lynn Haven Baptist Church parking lot. Trail head and trail parking are on your left. OR From Washington Avenue turn right at the light onto Bypass Road. Turn left at the stop light onto Route 634 (Hardy Road). Continue on Route 634 (Hardy Road) past Dillon Woods Subdivision. Turn left into "Best Little Hair House" parking lot. Trail head and trail parking are at the rear of the hair salon building.

Amenities: hiking and biking trail from Hardy Road (Route 634) all the way to William Byrd High School, connects to Goode Park and William Byrd High School Athletic Fields
